Poll: Dating - does it matter?

We all know there's such a thing as too much info (though in U2 slash - very little!). But are there such a thing as too little info? What I'm specifically thinking about is;
Do you find it annoying when you read a U2 slash fic which is not dated?
I'm not referring to "dated" as in when the post was made, or even stating exactly where and when the fic is taking place (like "Auckland, New Zealand, November 25th, 2005") but more era-wise. Like getting hints while reading that this, indeed, takes place during the Boy/Joshua Tree/ZooTV era.
To you, as a reader, is it important to get an idea on when a story takes place, or is it completely irrelevant?
Please participate and if you'd like to develop your thoughts in a comment, please feel free to do so.
[Poll #1153717]
EDIT:
First of all, I'd like to clarify that I wasn't referring to "dating" as in stating the era in the header or as a headline. I was thinking of putting era references into the story itself, to give the reader an idea on when it's supposed to take place. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Since there are at least some people who can't see the poll results (and I'm one of them), I'm going to try to sum it up from the comments to this post.
1) 4 people have said they want to know what era a story is set during. Though, as
la_woman, points out, undated fics may work in case of PWP's.
2) 1 person said she would prefer to know the era, but it's not that important.
3) 2 are happy with a hint or two.
4) 3 people chose "none of the above".
What everyone seems to agree on, though, is that what's most important is consistency. Like
rosephile put it: "So yeah, dating = a-ok and vague/dateless = a-ok, but no wishy-washy! Either do it or do without."
More profound comments like that under the cut, of course.
Thank you all for participating!
